Paris – Let the second round commence! The top half of the women’s draw and the bottom half of the men’s will be in action on Day 4 in Paris, which means an enticing lineup of second-round tilts will take place.

Here’s what we’ll be watching.

A Test for Carlitos?

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will lock horns with Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan, the man who shocked him out of Rome in 2023, in Wednesday's second match on Court Philippe-Chatrier. Alcaraz won their last meeting at Indian Wells last year, but that victory in Rome should give the 25-year-old world No.56 some confidence as he faces Alcaraz for the third time.

But Alcaraz is a different player on clay than he was two years ago. The Spaniard has now won 28 of his last 30 matches on the surface as he has developed a bulletproof game on clay.

Jovic On the Up

The youngest woman in the women’s singles draw, 17-year-old Iva Jovic of Torrance, California, has now won all three of her first-round matches at the majors. In Paris, Jovic will get another big second-round test as she faces Elena Rybakina in the third match on Court Simonne-Mathieu.

Rybakina seems to have found some form of late, she came to Paris after winning her ninth career title in Strasbourg, but struggled to get past Argentinian qualifier Julia Riera, 6-4 in the third.

Rybakina, a two-time quarterfinalist in Paris, will go in as the heavy favorite against Jovic, the player she beat 6-0, 6-3 at the Aussie Open five months ago.

Popcorn and More

Iga Swiatek will take on Emma Raducanu for the fifth time, after Alcaraz's match on Chatrier. Their first four meetings have all gone to the Pole in straight sets, but Raducanu has been in very solid form on the clay this year.

Don’t sleep on Holger Rune’s second-round clash with Emilio Nava. Nava reeled off a 19-match winning streak at lower level events this spring to earn the USTA’s wild card into Roland-Garros. The 23-year-old’s previous best win by ranking came against 46th-ranked John Isner at Miami in 2023.

He'll get a well-deserved shot at the big-time when he faces the Dane in the Chatrier night session.

We’ll also be watching Danielle Collins’ second-round clash with Iva Danilovic, with the winner hoping to set a third-round clash with top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka.
